Adidas Teknik

Adidas Teknik gives runners an impression of their running technique. When their running pattern becomes inconsistent (e.g. with fatigue), the device will give feedback that the runner should take a short break. This allows the central nervous system to recover and will prevent injuries.

Adidas Teknik consists of two parts, a sensor and an interface for feedback. The sensor is an accelerometer integrated in tight shorts placed on the hip, right above the knee.

The interface is a sweat band that provides feedback about the running performance. When a person is running well, the Adidas logo will give a green light as feedback. When the runner should take a break, a red light will illuminate.

Process:

To get in-depth insight about running, I interviewed runners before and after a running session (that I also joined). It became clear that currently runners only look at the duration of their run. My design aims to give feedback about the consistency of their running technique, because people should not run as long as possible, but as good as possible.
