Philips Lighting
Since the end of 2010 I have worked in the predevelopment department at the headquarters of Philips Lighting in Eindhoven. As a Product Designer I am responsible for the creation of mechanical concepts and prototyping of next generation LED-products. Additionally, I have organized a Young Professional Event, co-invented 4 patents and participated in pitch rounds for funding of projects that I proposed. One of the proposals was to do a preliminary study into LED-products for aquaculture and this research initiated the internal venture AquaLED.
Here are some examples of projects I worked on:
I worked closely together with a thermal engineer and created a new concept for MR16-lamps that does not require a fan for cooling of the electronics. This means a lower power consumption and longer lifetime. This lamp uses only 15% of the energy compared to conventional halogen lamps and it lasts 20 times longer. After creating several prototypes, intensive testing and collaboration with the Lighting team in Shanghai the product was introduced in May 2013.
For the Wake Up Light I prototyped the light effect that mimics the sunrise and sunset. Creating the first prototypes was a close collaboration between different Philips departments (Consumer Lifestyle, Lighting and LumiLEDs). The Wake Up Light was introduced end of 2012.
Fixtures for the professional market are normally developed and produced locally because of different requirements in different regions. For the CorePro Downlight project global requirements were identified and a design was made to address all regions. The design uses exchangeable components between regions to enable a low cost price but still fulfill regional requirements. A team around the globe was set up to realize this product and the downlight is now for sale in Asia, Europe and North America since mid 2013.
